Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Malta and an absolute must-try. The food is simply divine, with prices that are very reasonable for the quality you get. The service is excellent, the atmosphere is warm and authentic, and you genuinely feel transported to the Balkans the moment you walk in. Pljeskavica is incredibly unique, arguably even better than what you’ll find in the Balkans and the suckling pig is outstanding, perfectly cooked and irresistibly crispy (served on weekends). Every salad and dessert we tried was delicious as well. The servers are friendly, attentive, and extremely helpful, happily guiding you through the menu and recommending dishes based on your preferences. Balkankan to był zdecydowanie najlepszy wybór. Wspaniałe miejsce i przepyszna kuchnia bałkańska. Gulasz był fenomenalny! Obsługa miła, uśmiechnięta, chętnie doradzi i opowie o poszczególnych daniach. Wir kamen durch Zufall auf dieses Restaurant, weil es in der Nähe von unserem Hotel war. Schon bei der Reservierung (würde ich hier definitiv empfehlen) für den Abend, wurden wir sehr höflich empfangen und mit uns gescherzt. Am Abend wurde der erste Eindruck nochmal verstärkt. Die Herzlichkeit mit der man empfangen wird, die schnelle Bedienung und das sehr gute Essen, dass kann man nur empfehlen!! Wir kommen wieder ~ Oliver W

Encontramos el lugar ya que se encuentra cerca del hotel donde estamos alojados y cierran tarde lo que nos permitió cenar tranquilos. La comida de excelencia, muy bien atendidos y aconsejamos en cuanto a la carta. Hacia bastante tiempo no comía tan rico. Recomendable 100% venir a este restaurante. Muchas gracias! ~ Marcela T

The food was authentic, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The roasted pork was perfectly cooked—tender on the inside with a deliciously crispy exterior. The Sarma was excellent as well, with rich, comforting flavors and just the right balance of seasoning. I also tried the sopska salad, which was fresh, vibrant, and a great complement to the heavier dishes. Everything tasted homemade and traditional, which made the meal feel very special. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere was warm and inviting. If you enjoy Balkan cuisine or want to try something new, this place is definitely worth a visit. Svaka čast momcima koji rade, izuzetno su ljubazni i atmosfera je prava domaćinska. Hrana je vrhunska, ali ono što je najbitnije – imaju pravu rakiju! Uz čašicu dobre rakije i ovakvu uslugu, bukvalno imate osećaj kao da ste na Balkanu, a ne na Malti. Sve preporuke za svakoga ko želi autentičan ukus i pravi merak. ~ Milan M

We went to BalkanKan without a reservation, just for a quick lunch (unfortunately), but it was already clear this is a place meant to be enjoyed slowly. The food was excellent and truly homely. They prepared an amazing stew along with a selection of traditional starters, all perfectly accompanied by traditional drinks like rakia. Everything tasted authentic and full of flavour. The décor is warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere makes you feel comfortable right away. On top of that, the staff are super friendly, efficient, and attentive. Definitely coming back again — next time for a proper, long meal to really enjoy the experience. ~ Mars M

This restaurant impressed me from start to finish. There were eight of us, and we had made a reservation in advance. From the very beginning until the end, the staff showed a high level of professionalism and friendliness. At both the beginning and the end of the evening, we were treated to rakija, which was a really nice gesture. For my main dish, I ordered pork neck medallions. The meat had been marinated for over three days, and it was incredibly juicy, tender, and full of flavor. Some of my colleagues tried the pljeskavica served in a special type of bread. I also had a taste, and it was truly unforgettable. The portions were very generous—so much so that most of us couldn’t finish everything. We also tried the salads, which were very tasty as well. For dessert, we had pancakes with jam and Nutella, which were a perfect sweet ending to the meal. Overall, everything was excellent, and we will definitely come back. To miejsce zachwyca przede wszystkim jedzeniem – smaki są wyjątkowe, dopracowane i na długo pozostają w pamięci. Każde danie było prawdziwą ucztą dla podniebienia. Na wyróżnienie zasługuje również obsługa – profesjonalna, życzliwa i dbająca o każdy detal. Zdecydowanie warto odwiedzić! ~ Paweł W

What a place! Our family were here at Christmas and eat at this restaurant three evening for dinner. Not only was the food wonderful but the wine recommended and outstanding service by Jordan we have never come across before as he went through the menu and recommended items from it I can honestly say I probably won’t taste again unless I revisit this restaurant. I want to thank him and the owner for the welcoming they gave us. Fabulous food, wine and customer service.A really fabulous experience. Thank you ~ Elizabeth C

Slučajno sam otkrio ovaj restoran zahvaljujući sastanku sa osobom iz Severne Makedonije. Odmah mi se svidela bašta i ljubaznost konobara. A hrana je tek posebna priča. Prvo, sve je vrelo, a ja obožavam kada mi na sto stiže vruća hrana. Čak iz tog razloga ne pripremaju sledeće jelo dok ne vide da si priveo kraju prethodno. Jela su prava balkanska po izgledu, teksturi, ukusima, začinima. Sve je fenomelno. Svaki dan sam tu ručao. Najveća preporuka za ovaj restoran. ~ Dejan P

As walk ups looking for a very light meal (e.g. soup), the waiter outside was so helpful we were easily enticed inside. He arranged for beef soup, normally only served until 3pm, to be provided at dinner time. And it was superb! My wife tried the goulash, also delicious. The portions were very generous, not only ours but those of diners nearby. All the staff were happy and proud of there Macedonian heritage. Certainly a great restaurant to visit. ~ John O

I’ve been to Balkankan a few times now and it never disappoints. The food is always fresh and full of flavor, and the prices are honestly hard to beat. What I like the most is the atmosphere — it feels very relaxed and personal. All the staff is genuinely friendly and make you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive. If you can, sit outside. Never ate Balkan food in my life but what discovery this place was ! This place is a truly delight to go dining. We were welcomed by the kindest boss ever. Not pushy but honestly friendly. The food was amazing, the ambiance was great, and the flavors were great ! A place to recommend when in sliema. It was so good we visited multiple times during our stay. Geweldig lekker eten. Super sympathieke mensen. Aanrader op zaterdag en zondag is het traag gegaarde piglet. We hebben ongeveer 4kg verorberd met 7 man. Eerlijke prijs waar de Balkan smaak vanaf druipt. ~ Glenn V
